Yesterday we sailed out of Pier 32 Marina, bound for Point Loma Marina. Ted and Pam came along for the trip. Ted spotted a large floating object ahead of us in the South Bay and I didn’t know what it was so we made good speed over to check it out. At a distance I thought it was possibly an overturned boat, but when we got closer it looked like a long metal pole with yellow metal pontoons.
Be on the lookout in the South Bay for these floating objects. Use extreme caution at night. I found these yesterday and notified the Coast Guard. I’ll let you know if they’re still out there tomorrow. All 3 were adrift in the South Bay outside of Sweetwater Channel up towards the South side of the Navy base.
The weather was overcast and the wind was about 10 knots when we started sailing so we only flew the jib. We sailed well at 5.5 knots with the current pushing us out the bay.
We tied up to slip 314 at Point Loma Marina as rain started to fall. Ted and I tarped up the boat to keep rain on the outside until I get some more leaks fixed. We enjoyed a walk through Point Loma, visiting the fish market and Navy Exchange before dinner. We enjoyed prime rib with mashed potatoes and green beans.
