Sunday we sailed with Erick and Lindsay. The winds were forecast to be light, but we were lucky and got enough breeze to heel the boat over. We sailed up, under the bay bridge and around the USS Midway towards the Star of India. The wind was lighter in there and as we turned to sail out I was surprised to see one of the large tour boats about 50 yards away from us, right where I wanted to sail out. What was the most surprising was how quiet it was, I didn’t even know it was there until we were tacking out.
The rest of the sail was uneventful. We ran down the bay, poling out the Genoa and rigging a preventer on the main. We made 5 knots downwind, not bad for an old Catalina 27 with her 120 genoa up.
