Tonight while Natalie was doing the dishes the galley sink stopped draining. After picking at the drain for a few minutes with a long thin brush I brought out the shop vac. I stuck the hose over the drain and turned it on. “Uh Oh,” I thought as the water level in the sink remained constant. The hose then filled up with water, being sucked out of the ocean through the boat’s plumbing. When I turned off the shop vac and pulled the hose away, all the water drained overboard. Next time you’ve got a clog at home, try my way. Just don’t do it for a clogged toilet!
Replaced door hinges
The hinges for the door below the sink cracked and were falling off the hinges so I took a trip to West Marine. There I found Perko hinges, Catalog # 0271DP0CHR. They’re made of chrome plated brass and look much nicer than the old dingy broken hinges. Installation was pretty simple, just unscrew the old hinges, drill new holes in the door because the hinges are offset about 1/8 of an inch, and then reinstall. It took about 15 minutes to complete the project once I had the new hinges. I put another set on order at the store and I’ll redo the next door over when they come in.
